Private Rooms

4-channel video installation, 2000, 36 min., loop

In “Private Räume” (Private Rooms), Aurelia Mihai again uses split-screen projection. Two screens showing video collages face each other, suggesting a vertical cut through an appartment block that allows a view of the various private interiors within. On one side, the images appear to be those of a neutral observer (it is in fact an artificially constructed space), but in the version running opposite a woman appears who proceeds to go through every appartment. The constructed unity of of the separated spaces is extended both into the temporal and narrative levels.
